Penn's Place in Old New Castle has Closed

The eatery joins four other Delaware restaurants that have recently announced plans to shut down.

We were saddened to learn that Penn’s Place in Old New Castle has closed. The charming restaurant was known for its flavorful coffee and espresso, hearty breakfast sandwiches and fresh salads. In an announcement on the restaurant’s Facebook page owners Matthew and Esther Lovlie wrote a heartfelt message:

“Dear friends, neighbors and cherished patrons…after eight wonderful years it is with great sadness and heavy hearts that we officially close Trader’s Cove and Penn’s Place. At this point in our lives our energy and attention is required elsewhere.

We are so thankful for the friendships, memories and blessings that are too many to count and awesome staff and artisans who made our place a special destination. It is all the people…you…who made the place.

We hope you will continue to visit Historic New Castle and discover all it has to offer in every season. Blessings to you and yours for a New Year full of joy, peace and all the best that life has to offer.”

In the past few weeks, a number of other restaurants have closed in the First State, including A Different Kitchen in Milton, Jimmy’s Grill and Beach Nomad Brews in Rehoboth Beach and Abbott’s Grill in Milford is officially closing on Saturday, Jan. 12.
