Wilmington Beer Garden Slated to Open Today

The 20,000-square-foot space will include food and games for all ages.

The much-anticipated Constitution Yards Beer Garden is slated to open today, Friday, June 24, at 4 p.m. The 20,000-square-foot space, built at Justison Landing Park along the Christina Riverwalk, will feature picnic-style tables, bocce courts and corn hole, a sandbox for the kids, and plenty of tasty food and drink options.

Constitution Yards was constructed in less than a month, and its name is based on the shipping yards that once dominated Wilmington.

Tim Lux, Constitution Yard’s general manager and the managing partner with Imian Partners (the firm that’s managing and operating the beer garden), says his goal is to stay open through the fall. The garden’s recently approved daily liquor license expires Monday, June 27; a public hearing scheduled for July 7 will determine future licensing logistics.

Lux is optimistic and says he hasn’t noticed resistance from the neighborhood. “It’s important to be good neighbors because this is a family-friendly spot,” he says.

He says the beer garden will offer a good variety of craft and domestic beers, as well as wine on tap and frozen cocktails. “The chalkboard-based beer menu will allow for flexibility, such as [the release of] smaller batches and perhaps tap takeovers,” says Lux.
