Lucy DeVito

After a blockbuster first season under new executive director Bud Martin, The Delaware Theatre Company keeps getting better. Just look at the star casting for its first show of the year, “Any Given Monday.” Lucy DeVito, daughter of Danny DeVito and Rhea Perlman, plays Sarah, daughter of the main character, Lenny. On the stage, Ms. DeVito has played in “The Bureau of Missing Persons” and “Love, Loss and What I Wore.” She played Hilary in the award winning film “Sleepwalk With Me” and seduced Edward Norton in the 2010 film "Leaves of Grass.” She appears on FX's “It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia.” Leslie Hendrix plays Sarah’s her mother. For nearly 20 years Leslie has portrayed medical examiner Elizabeth Rodgers, on TV’s “Law & Order: Special Victims Unit” and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” “I have always considered myself primarily a comic actor, but for quite a while I've been playing serious roles that are rather ‘suited up,’ i.e.” doctors, lawyers, businesslike women,” Hendrix says. “It’s been a while since I had the opportunity to be in a comedy, so I’d say this is right up my alley.” Kenny Morris, an accomplished Broadway actor who has starred in the Broadway and national tours of “Harspray” and “Les Miserable,” plays Lenny, the father who must contemplate what he will stand up for and who he will stand up to. “Monday,” written by Philadelphia playwright Bruce Graham, revolves around erratic, politically incorrect commentary on football, racism and marriage. The story” good guy Lenny—teacher, dad, loving husband—finds his life shattered when Sarah has a crisis of faith and his wife (Risa) leaves him for a smooth-talking Casanova who builds Walmarts. He consoles himself with pizza and Monday Night Football until his best friend Mickey takes matters into his own hands. Despite the serious subject matter, we promise laughs—and lots of them. “Any Given Monday” runs Sept. 4-22. 594-1100, delawaretheatre.org
