Here's the Skinny on This Weekend's Must-Attend Antiques Show
The Brandywine River Museum of Art's 47th annual event takes place May 26–28.
Discover an extensive selection of fine antiques including furniture, rugs, porcelain, decorative arts, needlework and much more at the Brandywine River Museum of Art’s 47th Antiques Show. Held on Memorial Day weekend, May 26–28, the show will feature outstanding objects beautifully displayed throughout the museum and in the courtyard from 26 of the country’s most distinguished dealers, hailing from 10 states across the mid-Atlantic.
Featuring an exclusive first look at the dealer booths, a preview party will be held on Friday, May 25, from 6–9 p.m. Complete with live music, an open bar and hors d’oeuvres—including smoked salmon, lollipop lamb chops, carving stations and a full-scale sushi bar—the event is a lively celebration of art, antiques and tradition. (Tickets to the preview party are $125 per member and $150 per non-member. They include valet parking and can be purchased online or by calling 610-388-8318.)
The Antiques Show continues Saturday–Monday, from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $20 and includes entry to the museum and its galleries of renowned Wyeth and American art, including its special exhibition, “The Way Back: The Paintings of George A. Weymouth,” on view through June 3.
Additional special events throughout the weekend include the Antiques Show Breakfast and Lecture on Saturday, May 26, as well as “A Passion for Collecting: Dealer Talks” on Sunday, May 27, and Monday, May 28. At the former, James H. Duff—director emeritus of the Brandywine Conservancy & Museum of Art—will present “Exploring the Roots of this Treasured Event, The Antiques Show at Brandywine”; guided tours of “The Way Back: The Paintings of George A. Weymouth” will follow. The presentation will begin at 9:30 a.m., following a continental breakfast in the Millstone Cafe at 9 a.m. Four talks given by dealers in the show will also be held in select dealer booths on Saturday and Sunday at 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., with topics ranging from Staffordshire pottery to American furniture to oriental rugs. (Register in advance by calling 610-388-8318, or meet in the museum’s first-floor lobby 15 minutes prior to each lecture.)
The Antiques Show is made possible by the hard work and dedication of more than 100 Brandywine volunteers. Proceeds benefit the Museum Volunteers' Purchase Fund as well as art and education programming.
