Off to See the Wizard

“The Wizard of Oz” just turned 75, which means there are great live performances locally. First, the Delaware Children’s Museum hosts the first-ever, licensed traveling educational exhibition based on the movie classic and its memorable characters—Dorothy,  the Tin Man, the Cowardly Lion, Scarecrow and the Wicked Witch—with a show at Delaware Children’s Theatre. Through Jan. 26, guests at DCM can travel from the Gale Farm in Kansas to the Land of Oz, visit Professor Marvel’s Wagon, create a tornado in Dorothy’s bedroom, enter the Emerald City, explore Munchkinland and even climb up a mountain to the Wicked Witch’s castle and attempt to capture her broom from the Winged Monkeys.  It’s a journey of self-discovery the whole family can enjoy.  In Conjunction with the exhibition, a cast of about 40 adults and young actors brings Dorothy and all the other characters to life on stage at Delaware Children’s Theatre. The full scale production of the classic tale follows Dorothy from Kansas to the land of Oz and includes lively renditions of popular tunes like “Over the Rainbow,” “Courage,” “Ding-Dong the Witch is Dead” and “Off to See the Wizard.”  The play runs for two hours with an intermission complete with cookies and juice followed by photo opportunities with the actors after the show.  It’s perfect for children ages four and up. See it Nov. 23-Dec. 15. Purchase a ticket to both the exhibition and the theater performance for just $21 during the online special at visitwilmingtonde.com/oz. Need more.
