Don't Miss the Delaware Premiere of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame"

Middletown's Everett Theatre is hosting the First State's first-ever production of the show.

Based on the Victor Hugo novel and songs from the Disney-animated feature, the Everett Theatre's production of "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" showcases the film’s Academy Award-nominated score, as well as a new book by Peter Parnell and new songs by Alan Menken and Stephen Schwartz.

The musical begins as the bells of Notre Dame sound through the famed cathedral in 15th-century Paris. Quasimodo, a deformed bell-ringer who longs to be "out there," observes all of Paris reveling in the Feast of Fools. Held captive by a devious caretaker, the archdeacon Dom Claude Frollo, Quasimodo escapes for the day and joins the boisterous crowd, only to be treated cruelly by all but the beautiful gypsy, Esmeralda. But Quasimodo isn’t the only one captivated by her free spirit—the handsome Captain Phoebus and Frollo are equally enthralled. As all three men vie for Esmeralda's attention, Frollo embarks on a mission to destroy the gypsies—and then it’s up to Quasimodo to save them all.

The show runs Oct. 13 and 20 at 7:30 p.m., and Oct. 14, 15, 21 and 22 at 2 p.m. Prices are $18 for adults, $15 for seniors and students, and $10 for ages 12 under. The running time is 2 hours and 30 minutes.
