Dover: Dining in Delaware
For nearly 30 year, W.T. Smithers (140 S. State St., Dover, 674-8875) has reined as a casual gathering place, drawing big crowds with good crab cakes, burgers and other tavern fare. Not too far away, 33 West Ale House and Grill (33 W. Loockerman St., Dover, 735-9822) has emerged as a place for power lunches and good casual dinners. The newly redesigned dining room is sleek and contemporary. The latest menu offers old favorites such as a jacked up chicken quesadilla as well as new items, not to mention the largest selection of beer in the area. Cool Springs Fish Bar (2463 S. State St., Dover, 698-1955) isn’t merely the best seafood restaurant in town—it’s one of the best in the state. Chef Dennis Forbes offers everything from linguine Alfredo with blackened tuna to classic crab imperial to stuffed local rockfish. Land lubbers will find plenty of beef and chicken dishes.
