El Diablo Burritos Opens its Fifth Location on Market Street in Wilmington
The popular northern Delaware fast-casual eatery debuted the new spot on Oct. 29—with a breakfast menu.

The popular southwestern-inspired restaurant El Diablo Burritos is expanding again—this time to downtown Wilmington.
The fast casual eatery that specializes in burritos, tacos, salads and quesadillas is currently renovating a space located at 837 N. Market St. The hope is to see the new restaurant open sometime in September but co-owners Dean Vilone, Shannon Stevens and Roger Andrews are still keeping it slightly under wraps.
“Traditionally this is what we’ve done. We’ve never said what the date is and we post on Facebook, ‘we’re opening today at 1 p.m.,’” Stevens said.
The decision to take over this previous restaurant space was originally turned down by El Diablo as the group wasn’t sure about the business downtown. “We didn’t think it was really time yet,” Stevens said.

But, the trio decided to bring El Diablo downtown after they saw good things happening on Market Street with the addition of new restaurants and residential living.
The new El Diablo is currently taking on the look and feel of the other restaurants with a bright, red wall, wood accents and exposed white brick. Stevens said the only thing that remained from the previous establishment was the back kitchen and bathroom. The space is designed to flow with the ordering line, Stevens said. With seating in the center of the restaurant in the form of a built-in booths and tables. High top tables sit closer to the front door. The front door will part of an enclosed vestibule to help with the colder months.
The menu at the Market Street restaurant will be the same as the other locations, except for the addition of a breakfast menu. Stevens said to expect huevos rancheros, pastries, breakfast tacos and burritos. The lunch and dinner menu will be identical. El Diablo lets customers make their own burritos, tacos and quesadillas with various proteins like chicken, steak, pork, short rib, maui maui, mushroom and bean. There’s also a variety of salads.
Everything El Diablo serves is made fresh and in-house down to its sauces, marinades and juices. Stevens said the only exception are the tortillas. “It’s all made from scratch,” he said.
