Delaware beach-goers often count down the days and minutes until Memorial Day weekend—but the fun doesn’t have to disappear with the warm temperatures! In fact, because the First State’s beaches have become home to a year-round crowd, businesses are no longer shuttering their doors once the first snowflake falls. Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes, for example, is embracing Old Man Winter with a 2018 lineup of community events guaranteed to kick any cold-weather doldrums to the curb. Ready for some fun? Be sure to add these events to your calendar ASAP.

1. Celebrate Halfway to Summer Weekend

From Friday, Jan. 12, through Monday, Jan. 15, warm up with summer-themed foods, decor and live music during the brewery’s Halfway to Summer Weekend. Beach Escape—the brewery’s signature White IPA—will be appearing in cans for the first time. Don’t miss Friday’s Steal the Pint Night beginning at 5 p.m.; the first 100+ guests to order Beach Escape will have the chance to take home a commemorative glass. Cranberry Goose, a refreshingly tart and crisp sour beer, will also be released for the event.

2. Support the arts by drinking beer

For every pint of beer sold during the months of January, February and March, Clear Space Theatre in Rehoboth will receive 25 cents. Crooked Hammock will also be hosting three fundraising events for Clear Space Theatre. Wednesday, Jan. 17, is the theatre’s season-opening public cocktail party. On Wednesday, Feb. 21, guests can enjoy an intimate performance by two actors; 40 percent of ticket sales go to the theatre. The event on Wednesday, March 21, highlights the theatre’s youth program, after-school literacy program, Broadway Bound classes and Spotlight on Young Performers classes. The brewery hopes to raise $15,000 for the theatre this year.

3. Discover new brews at Steal the Pint Nights

(No, actual stealing is not being advocated.) When Crooked Hammock releases a seasonal beer, the first 100+ guests to order it have the chance to take home a commemorative glass. The events start at 5 p.m. on the following dates:

  • Friday, Jan. 12: The release of Beach Escape, a Belgian-style IPA bursting with citrus and hoppy goodness.
  • Friday, Feb. 16: The release of Banana Hammock, a traditional Belgian Quad flavored with fresh bananas and roasted cocoa nibs.
  • Friday, March 23: The release of Hand of Buddha, a traditional cream ale with generous amounts of citrus flavor and a hint of vanilla bean.
  • Friday, April 20: The release of The Dankness, a crisp and hop-forward Pilsner.

4. Attend the Beer Drinkers’ Choice Awards

Beer drinkers, unite. Don’t miss the Beer Drinkers’ Choice Awards on Sunday, Feb. 25, where guests vote on a handful of fun and creative beer categories. Contestants from local breweries wear costumes and vie for a big WWE-style belt, which is awarded to the winner of the best beer.

5. Celebrate the reopening of the Beer Garden

During the winter months, Crooked Hammock’s beer garden is enclosed and heated. But the cover comes off on Friday, April 13—a grand reopening of the beer garden/backyard and a joyful celebration of spring. Enjoy live music, backyard games and a new spring menu all weekend long.

Crooked Hammock Brewery is a unique place where all of us can celebrate our time at the beach—whether we’re grabbing a homemade bite to eat, sipping a craft brew that’s made right on the premises, enjoying time with friends and family, or just getting away by ourselves. Crooked Hammock is a place where we can all hop into our very own hammock!
