A year full of parties and celebrations makes Newark a great place for a special kind of fun.

June 3-24 Spring Concert on the Academy Lawn
Every Thursday at 7 p.m.
Performers include Chapel Street Junction, The Hook, Penny and the Pineapple People, and the Steve Lewis Big Band. Call 366-7060.

June 5 25th Annual Newark Nite
4 p.m.-8:30 p.m. on Main Street.
Main Street is closed to cars so you can stroll among live entertainers, shop sidewalk sales, sample restaurants, view a classic car show and play in the special kids area. Rain date is June 6. Call 366-7060. In case of inclement weather, call 366-7147.

July 4 Liberty Day
6 p.m.-9 p.m. at the University of Delaware athletic complex.

July 24 Downtown Newark’s Annual Food & Brew Festival

Sept. 23-30 Newark Film Festival
Newark Cinema Center 3. The first Newark Film Festival, held in 2005, drew 1,200 people. It has since become one of the state’s premier events, attracting more than 5,000 fans of independent films. For more information, visit newarkfilm.com
