Champagne Supernova

The Cadillac of bubbly hits the Green Room, and viva la craft pizza revolución.

Wednesday, May 12: It’s always a good sign when a wine term is hard to pronounce. Enter Veuve Clicquot (say: vuuhv klee-koh), a prized French champagne that will invade Wilmington Wednesday for a special Hotel du Pont Veuve Clicquot Winemaker’s Event.

From the hotel’s prestigious Green Room, the event will include special guest Pierre Casenave, winemaker extraordinaire from Veuve Clicquot. Hors d’œuvres and a three-course champagne dinner are also part of the program. Menu is over here.

All this sophistication doesn’t come cheap. Tickets cost $120 each. For reservations, call 594-3154.

New digs: Is the craft pizza revolution finally upon us in Delaware? Sure seems that way, with the opening of pizza-friendly Chelsea Tavern and Anthony’s Coal Fire Pizza within a few weeks of one another.

And now comes FireStone Roasting House, taking over the favorable Riverfront spot last occupied by C.W. Harborside. FireStone opened last weekend with its wood-burning stone pizza oven ablaze.

Click your way over here for a good look at FireStone, which is owned by the folks from Big Fish Grill. The expansive patio bar should be open for business by this weekend.

 

New digs, part deux: The Wilmington martini bar formerly known as 1717 is now Lime Tequila Bar & Mexican Grill, a spot that will dole out top shelf margaritas sweetened with agave nectar and focus the cuisine on upscale Mexican and Latin specialties like stuffed jalapenos, fish tacos, nachos and gaucho steak.
