End-of-summer events threaten to give German-occupied baseball games das boot.

Welcome to Home Skillet, a food events blog that takes its bratfisch mit kartoffelsalat on roggenmischbrot with a dab of löwensenf. Just a dab. Here’s what’s cookin’ this week:

Thursday, September 3: Hey, the end of the summer isn’t all bad. It won’t be 90 degrees in the afternoons anymore. Football is back. And did I mention football is back?
Oh, and there’s this, too: The End of Summer Patio Party at Harry’s Savoy Grill on Thursday. Join those North Wilmington magnates from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. for cocktails, a raw bar, tasty hors d’oeuvres and live music on their recently-refurbished patio.
Entry costs $25 per person, and interested parties should call 475-3000 for reservations.

Saturday, September 5: The Swedes may have founded Wilmington, but on Saturday, it’s all about Zee Germans. Head to the Wilmington Riverfront for the first ever German Heritage Night commences from Frawley Stadium with the Wilmington Blue Rocks and Delaware Saengerbund. A special ticket rate of $14 will include a ticket, a hat and a beer. We have to assume some awesome German high jinx are in the works, too. The Blue Rocks and the Frederick Keys square off beginning at 6:05 p.m.

Saturday, September 5: The annual Arden Fair, the event as old as some of its antiques it makes available, kicks off its 102nd year Saturday with lots of crafts, books, antiques, music, kid’s rides and most importantly—food. Admission is free and shuttle buses are available to schlep folks to the woodsy fairgrounds. Click here for more info: ardenclub.org.
