LLLLLLets Get Reeeaadddyyyy to Siiiiippp SOOOOMMEE WIIINNNEEEEE!
OK, enough of that. We’ll let Walter’s settle this score.
On Wednesday, the venerable Wilmington steakhouse will host its inaugural Wine Challenge tasting flight, pitting the two famous wine-producing regions in a head-to-head battle royale.
Beginning at 6:30, Walter’s will present its guests with a blind tasting of four wine flights, each containing one selection from Napa Valley and one from Sonoma Valley. Accompanying each flight will be a food course that matches perfectly.
For example, the first course (or Round 1) will feature age-old rivals Chateau St. Jean Fume Blanc and Beringer Napa Sauvignon Blanc, along with Oregon and Washington state oysters with caviar, sour cream, tapenade, red onion and roasted red pepper.
Following each course, diners will be invited to vote to determine the origin of each wine region, and prizes will be awarded for identifying correctly.
Cost is $49.95 per person. Call Walter’s at 652-6780 to reserve your spot.
Friday, January 29: The Hockessin Athletic Club will be the site of the Second Annual Kelly Heinz-Grundner Brain Tumor Foundation Beef and Beer Winter Fundraiser Friday.
The popular event (it sold out last year) kicks off at 7 p.m. and will include live music from the Geezers (not to be confused with the Weezers), a silent and Chinese auction, plus tons of great food and beverages.
No tickets will be sold at the event. Last year’s event was sold out, so get your tickets HERE early.
Saturday, January 30: City Theater Company (Delaware’s Off-Broadway venue of choice) is teaming with Veritas Wine and Spirits for a special wine tasting. The fundraiser requires only a $10 donation at the door, but once you’re inside, wine tastings are free.
There is talk of an after-party at across-the-street neighbors, Kooma, with drink specials rocking all night. Call Veritas at 543-6071 for the full lowdown.
