Forever Fit is the only personal training business to have a full apparatus Pilates studio in both Kent and Sussex counties. Certified professionals teach the apparatus and mat classes. Exercises incorporate the body-mind connection by using breathing techniques and the deep abdominal muscles. Classes are capped off at 10 students. Private sessions are also offered. Classes cost $18 each. (Forever Fit also offers classes at Quest Fitness in Lewes at 17252 N. Village Main Blvd.)

Both mat and equipment courses are taught by AFTA- or Ace-certified instructors. Pilates and More includes Pilates, yoga and resistance moves that focus on the abs and core. The courses use equipment such as body bars and exercise balls. Group classes have five to 30 or more participants. All levels are welcome. Equipment and mats are provided. Classes are open to the public for $5 each and come in packages ranging from $20 to $40.

The Rehoboth Beach location offers Body Flow, a course that combines yoga, tai chi and Pilates. The hour-long class is great for exercising the core. Groups are made up of five to 15 participants. All instructors are certified by the Lesmills program. The gym provides mats. Class fee included in gym membership. Non-members can pay a day fee that covers usage of all facilities.

Marisa Klarich, one of the only power Pilates- and classical Pilates-certified instructors in the area, teaches here. Private and semi-private sessions are available. Semi-private classes are made up of about six people and cost $45 for six weeks. Private classes are $65 for six weeks. The class is held once a week for an hour. All levels of core fitness are welcome to join day or evening group mat classes.

Certified instructors teach Mat Pilates and Pilates on the Ball in classes of five to 20. Classes focus on strengthening the “powerhouse” region of the body: core muscles, inner and outer thighs, and buttocks. Participants are encouraged to bring their own mats, but exercise balls are provided. Beginner and intermediate levels are offered. Sign up is on a monthly basis, with classes priced at $6 per hour. Membership is not required.

This fitness studio, new in March, offers advanced STOTT Pilates apparatus taught by certified instructors. Incorporating a modern technique, the class focuses on kinesiology and biomechanics. It applies principles of breath and movement while restoring balance and stability in muscles and joints. Physicore also offers “Mamalates” for fitness during and after pregnancy. All levels are welcome. Participants must bring their own mats. Pricing ranges from $15 to $20 per class.

Instructor Meraz Narunsky teaches a class based on matwork Pilates, incorporating various exercise methods and techniques. The fitness center also offers “Spinlates,” a total body workout combining 45 minutes of spinning, and Express Pilates, which goes through the different exercise sequences continually. Instructor Kathleen Perkins offers Pilates Playhouse, a 90-minute core class that utilizes BOSUs, stability balls, bands and balloons to complete Pilate exercises. All levels are welcome. Equipment is provided. Classes are free for members and a variety of packages are offered for non-members.

The Milford location offers Quest Core, a class that melds Pilates with general stability and abdominal exercises. The Village Gym

A certified instructor teaches a year-round mat- and floor-based class with a focus on core training and stretching. The class is open to all levels. The instructor tailors moves to meet the experience of each participant. Classes range from five to 15 students. The instructor provides exercises balls and other equipment for occasional use during the class, in addition to mats. A $10 drop-in fee covers all classes at The Village Gym for one day. Some membership plans include Pilates classes.

YMCA of Delaware

Generally, the YMCA offers two Pilates classes: Pilates Mat Basics and Pure Pilates. Pilates Mat Basics offers strengthening and stretching, aiming at the body’s powerhouse: abdomen, hips, lower back and buttocks. Pilates is meant to strengthen muscles, promote flexibility and balance, and unite body and mind. Pure Pilates is a more advanced class for members who have a basic grasp of simple Pilates moves. The YMCA also offers an entry-level mat exercise Pilates class. Participants must bring their own equipment. Classes are open to all members.

A 45/45 Hi/Lo Pilates class incorporates 45 minutes of classic floor aerobics and ends with 45 minutes of intense Pilates. The class is designed for moderate impact and varied intensity. The center also offers a classic Pilates class, designed to increase core strength and endurance. In addition, the Power Pump class offers a complete body workout incorporating weights and Pilates with varied intensity and low impact. Participants must bring a mat for all Pilates classes. The class is open to all levels.
