Simply a Matter of Taste

Baywood attracts top chefs, plus sippin’ bubbly poolside in November.

Welcome to Home Skillet, where we’re already thinking about Christmas cookies. But ah, here are our first-week-of-November food events:

Thursday, November 5: March of Dimes Delaware, Child’s Play by the Bay, and a gaggle of Sussex chefs, brewers and wine experts are throwing down at Baywood Greens Thursday in a celebration of fall flavors, wine, beer and goodwill—also known as A Matter of Taste.
Chefs from Nourish Specialty Foods and Catering, The Clubhouse at Baywood Greens, Fins Fish House and Raw Bar, Hobo’s Restaurant & Bar, Pasqualini’s Bakery, Pickled Pig Pub, 1776 Steakhouse, Nage and DiFebo’s will be in attendance.
Hit Baywood from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and bring $50 for access. Click here for more info and ticket ordering information.

Friday, November 6: Friendly North Wilmington neighbors F&N Wine and Spirits and Harry’s Savoy Grill team up Friday for their annual Winefest, featuring wines and champagnes from the world over.
Harry’s, being no slouch itself, comes loaded with lamb chops, assorted foccacia bites, creamy spinach and artichoke dip and an array of imported cheeses, meats and breads.
Things get started at Harry’s elegant ballroom at 7 p.m. Friday. For reservations call F&N Wine & Spirits at 475-4496. Admission to this soirée costs $55 per person.

Saturday, November 7: Who doesn’t want to be chillin’ poolside in early November? Well, OK, what if the pool is indoors and heated, and you’re sipping on sweet imported bubbly?
The Poolside WineExpo, which goes down Saturday at the Hockessin Athletic Club, allows guests to taste more than 100 different wines and champagnes culled from 22 wine distributors. There will be a prime rib carving station, imported cheeses, breads, spinach and artichoke dips and tons of other savory hors d’oeuvres.
Organizers at Tim’s Liquors are handling ticket requests, so call the Hockessin landmark at 239-5478 to make your reservations. Then head to the Hockessin Athletic Club, poolside, of course, at 7 p.m. The cost is $70 per person.

Saturday, November 7: The local arm of the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson’s Research is gearing up for its awareness-raising, delicious-tasting Pancakes for Parkinson’s event, which happens Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at the Shipyard Shops at the Wilmington Riverfront.
A $5 donation per person at the door gets you into this first-ever MJFF fundraiser in Wilmington, so click your way over here and RSVP, donate, mark your calendar and so forth. Mmm, pancakes.
