Welcome to Home Skillet, where every year we give our sweetheart the same thing for Valentine’s Day: Billy the Talking Bass. But here are some options for you:
Thursday, February 11: The Wilmington Chocolate Festival makes its choco-blasted return to the Wilmington Library this year, bringing with it gobs of ooey brownies, cakes, candies, cookies and more. I was on-hand judging last year’s fest, and it went down a little something like this.
Head to the library Thursday at 11 a.m. for a little midday pick-me-up. Admission is just $1 and taste tickets are a quarter apiece.
**UPDATE** Due to the impending nor’easter, the Chocolate Festival has been postponed until Thursday, February 18. All times and entry rules remain the same.
Friday, February 12-Tuesday, February 16: So the Saints couldn’t have timed this any better. Lovers of all things New Orleans will converge upon Rehoboth Beach this weekend for the town’s annual Mardi Gras weekend.
Ten downtown Rehoboth Beach restaurants will offer special New Orleans cuisine and Cajun cooking plus Bourbon Street beverages, live music and lot’s o’ beads.
Restaurant participating includes Dogfish Head, Finbar’s, Hobos, Pig + Fish, Porcini House and many more. Expect plenty of po’ boys, étoufée, beignets, gumbo and maybe even some hurricanes.
Participating restaurants as well as Carltons will be selling raffle tickets to benefit future events, promotion, and revitalization efforts in downtown Rehoboth Beach. Call 227-2772 for more.
Sunday, February 14: Tons of Delaware restaurants will undoubtedly hold specials Sunday for Valentine’s Day. Here are just a few of my favorites:
Potstickers, the super-fun pan-Asian place, will combine Valentine’s Day and Chinese New Year into a super holiday extravaganza with some awesome-sounding food. Sushi rolls, seared beef and hunky chocolate desserts are all fair game between Friday and Sunday. Click over here for the full rundown.
Immensely romantic Harry’s Savoy Grill (trust me, ladies love prime rib) will present a four-course chocolate themed menu Sunday. Think of Maine lobster bathed in white chocolate sauce, and local white tail deer with Mexican mole sauce. Here’s the menu.
