Welcome to Home Skillet, where we firmly believe that a boy’s best friend is his mother.
Sunday, May 10: All sorts of Mom’s Day celebrations happening across Delaware this Sunday. So be good to your mama. She’s the only one you have. Here’s a quick sampling:
A special Mother’s Day brunch at Winterthur Museum (and Country Estate) kicks off 10 a.m. The brunch buffet will have everything from an omelet station to a stir-fry station and even feature vegetarian and vegan dishes. $32.95, half price for kids, and free for children under 3 Call 888-4826 or visit www.winterthur.org for more.
Caffé Gelato is hosting a by-reservation-only brunch on Sunday, too. Call 738-5811 to reserve your spot, which only costs $7 per person.
Harry’s (both Savoy and Seafood) is rolling out its famous brunch. At Harry’s Savoy Grill, a la carte dining in the restaurant is available from 12 noon to 9 p.m. with a sumptuous buffet happening in the ballroom, from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. (brunch) and again from 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. (dinner).
Over in New Castle, the folks at Augusta Grille (inside the Clarion Hotel on Del. 13) have some Mom’s Day brunch action happening. On Sunday at 1 p.m. dine on chicken marsala, prime rib, smoked turkey, a chocolate fountain, and much more. Call 299-1414 to make a reservation.
Mother’s Day (just like Labor Day, Arbor Day, and um, Sandra Day O’Connor) is a great excuse to buy a dozen Sweet-N-Sassy Cupcakes. They’ve been kind enough to assemble a special Mother’s Day package, which you can view here.
You can’t even have a conversation about Mother’s Day Brunch (legally) without mentioning Victoria’s Restaurant in Rehoboth Beach. The menu looks spectacular, as always. Call 227-0615 to make reservations.
Forthcoming digs: As you may have heard, the resurrection of the much-ballyhooed Brandywine Brewing Co., is already underway in Greenville.
This summer, at the site of the former Pizza by Elizabeths, will spring BBC Tavern and Grill. Owner David M. Dietz is back, and while he won’t be brewing beer, he’ll be doling out affordable entrees, big nachos, gourmet mustards, and patio dining.
Keep checking back here and with Delaware Today for updates.
