5 Things to Do at the Delaware Beaches Before Summer Ends

From bonfires to water tours, these recurring events get visitors outside at a safe distance through the end of summer.


While these past few months have arguably left something to be desired, these events across the Delaware beaches demonstrate that it is never too late to have some traditional summer fun with a few precautions. With a little over a  month left of the season, here are some summer activities to check out before fall arrives.

Monday Night Movies at Dewey Beach

What’s a better way to spend a Monday night than relaxing in a beach chair and watching movies that the whole family can enjoy? Sponsored by Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center and Weis Markets, Monday Night Movies presents your favorite flicks right on the sand.

All movies take place on Monday nights starting at 8:30 p.m. at Dagsworthy Avenue on Dewey Beach until Aug. 17. Glow necklaces are available for a $1 donation. Free parking is available from 5-11 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Beach chairs and blankets are encouraged.

Cape Water Taxi Tours

Looking for the chance to get back out on the water? Cape Water Taxi Tours takes you on a whirlwind tour across the southern Delaware shoreline to see all it has to offer. From wading right on the ocean to watching wildlife in action, Cape Water Taxi Tours provide patrons with unique sights of the beaches up and down Lewes.

Tours run through Dec. 31. Options include narrated or non-narrated tours, evening and live music cruises, and private charters. Nature-based options include dolphin watching, full moon cruises and eco tours. Strict capacity limits remain in effect as a first-come, first-serve basis. Reservations can be made online prior to docking.

Races 2 Run

If you’re longing to get a little fun in the sun and to give back, Races 2 Run is exactly what you need. Teaming up with non-profit organizations such as the Harry K. Foundation, Races 2 Run not only support causes through a variety of running, walking and multisport events, but also encourages attendees to get out and have fun—even when going out for a walk.

All races and events take place from March to December in Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey and Pennsylvania. Scheduled times and dates are available online.

Wednesday Night Bonfires on Dewey Beach

For those looking to unwind without skipping dessert, the Rehoboth Beach-Dewey Beach Chamber of Commerce and Visitors Center and Weis Markets have a solution. Wednesday Night Bonfires offer visitors the chance to get together, roast marshmallows and get cozy by the warm crackling fire—all to the gentle sound of crashing waves.

All bonfires will take place from 7-9 p.m. at Dagsworthy Avenue on Dewey Beach, weather permitting, until Aug. 19. Visitors will receive a jumbo marshmallow, a glow stick and a borrowed stick to roast for a $1 donation. Free parking is available from 5-11 p.m. on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays.

Rehoboth Beach Farmers’ Market

When you’re in need of fresh produce and groceries, look no further than the Rehoboth Beach Farmers’ Market. The Farmers’ Market offers all patrons the opportunity to find their next favorite dish from local vendors.

The market is held every Tuesday from noon-4 p.m. until Oct. 27, rain or shine. Look for the big white tents to scout the location in Grove’s Park, near Lighthouse Circle in downtown Rehoboth.
