BART announces auditions for “A Funny Thing”
April 24, 2016 @ 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm
The Bethany Area Repertory Theater (BART) is pleased to announce auditions for its upcoming performance of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum, the award-winning musical comedy by composer Stephen Sondheim and writers Larry Gelbart and Burt Shevelove.
Auditions will take place one-day only: April 24 from 2–4 p.m. at St. Martha's Episcopal Church Parish Hall, Maplewood and Pennsylvania Aves, Bethany Beach, Del. (If unable to attend, please call to arrange a one-on-one audition). Those auditioning for a singing role should bring a song they would like to sing. (It need not be from the show.) A piano accompanist will be on hand to play musical selections.
BART is seeking men and women of all ages (sixteen and above) for the production. There are lead roles for seven men and two women, and featured roles for three men and six women, as well as non-singing dancing and speaking roles. Off-stage roles are also available behind the scenes for those who would like to support the show.
Inspired by the farces of the ancient Roman playwright Plautus (251–183 BCE), the musical tells the bawdy story of a slave named Pseudolus and his attempts to win his freedom by helping his young master woo the girl next door.
The show will premiere at The Dickens Parlour Theatre in Millville on Wednesday, June 1, and run eight performances through Sunday, June 12. For further information, contact the director, Rusty Hesse: firstname.lastname@example.org, or call 914-539-7324.
