Christine Lafuente: Tablescapes of Dreamlands

Somerville Manning Gallery is pleased to announce a solo exhibition of work by Christine Lafuente on display from April 8 – April 30, 2022.
Many of the paintings in this show – Tablescapes of Dreamlands – were painted in the artist’s studio in Brooklyn during the pandemic lockdown. Despite the isolation and limited mobility, Lafuente was able to discover new expressions of freedom and playfulness in her work. In an evolution towards abstraction, the gestural brushstrokes in her most recent body of work become objects in and of themselves. Lafuente was also strongly influenced by locations where she spent time over the last year and a half – the bright candy colors of Puerto Rico, the native flowers of the northeast, New York City’s urban views, and the light and shadows of coastal Maine.
