Couples struggling to conceive often turn to in vitro fertilization (IVF), the most successful form of infertility treatment. But many couples do not do so for fear of the projected costs. Some insurance plans will not cover any infertility services; others will pay for all of them; others provide coverage somewhere in between. Regardless of your financial situation, the experts at the Delaware Institute for Reproductive Medicine (DIRM) are focused on you. They take care of your fertility needs, but also understand that treatment does not take place in a vacuum. If you have financial concerns on top of your medical needs, DIRM’s caring staff will work with you to determine which insurance benefits you have and what your approximate out-of-pocket costs will be. When insurance is not an option at all, DIRM offers a variety of self-pay packages and discount options to help ease financial burdens.
FREE SECOND OPINION
When failure is not an option, a second opinion may offer hope or guidance. Unfortunately, not all IVF cycles are successful, leaving some patients with several questions: Why did our cycle fail? What are our future options? Who can help?
Dr. Russell hopes to answer these questions and offer guidance for future success. Contact us today to schedule your free second-opinion consultation.
PRICE-MATCH GUARANTEE
DIRM believes that finances should not get in the way of your dream to start a family, which is why they also offer a price-matching guarantee. If you don’t have health insurance coverage, DIRM will match any self-pay package offered by other infertility offices in the Delaware, New Jersey, Pennsylvania or Maryland areas. Simply supply documentation from the office offering the self-pay package—including that package’s prices and services offered—and DIRM will gladly match it.
DIRM DISCOUNTS
DIRM proudly offers a 20 percent military discount to members of the armed forces, Christiana Care and Nemours employees, and their spouses. For patients with a cancer diagnosis, DIRM works with The Livestrong Foundation to cover medications and offer additional discounted treatment options.
DIRM is also part of the PerksCard Network, best known for its co-branded affinity cards. The PerksCard provides a way for members to save on things they do and need every day, including gym memberships, movie tickets, mini-vacations, dining opportunities and much more.
For patients with no insurance coverage, DIRM also works with Fertility LifeLines’s Compassionate Care Program and First Steps in order to provide lower-cost options for infertility medications. Both of these programs offer discounts between 10 and 75 percent for those who qualify.
FERTILITY GRANTS
Hope does exist for patients whose primary barrier to infertility treatment is the cost. The nonprofit organizations below provide financial assistance to select infertility patients:
- Baby Quest Foundation offers financial assistance through fertility grants to those who cannot afford IVF, gestational surrogacy, egg and sperm donation, egg freezing, artificial insemination or embryo donation.
- Resolve is a nonprofit organization that provides both emotional and financial support. They provide valuable information regarding insurances, loans and grants.
SELF-PAY PROGRAMS
Individualized discounted options are available for patients without insurance coverage. DIRM offers intrauterine insemination (IUI) packages as well as single- and multi-cycle IVF packages. Call to speak with a patient-accounts liaison to determine which program best fits your goals.
FINANCING OPTIONS
DIRM understands the high cost of fertility treatments, and is constantly working to keep prices competitive and to help you maximize your insurance benefits. DIRM offers many options that can alleviate the financial stress of fertility treatments, including special package pricing, medication programs and financing. The patient-accounts staff is highly trained and always available to help you choose the best options for your situation.
DIRM is a participating provider with most insurance companies. Being a participating provider with your insurance carrier means that DIRM will file all of your claims for you, and will assist you in appealing any claims that were incorrectly denied. If your insurance carrier does not cover infertility treatments, DIRM offers self-pay packages for your convenience.
UNDERSTANDING YOUR COVERAGE
Be sure to check with your insurance company to confirm that you have an accurate understanding of your coverage. Many insurance companies provide online access to your benefits, or call centers to assist you. Here are some questions to ask your insurance company:
- Is an infertility diagnosis a covered benefit?
- Do I have diagnostic or treatment coverage, or both?
- Do I have an annual deductible?
- Do I have a copayment? If so, what is it?
- Do I have 100 percent coverage or do I have a coinsurance?
- Do services need to be pre-certified?
Most insurance plans offer diagnostic coverage, which is coverage of testing that aims to determine why you are having difficulty getting pregnant. But not all insurance plans offer treatment coverage—meaning that even when a diagnosis has been made and it’s time to move into treatment, your insurance company will not make any further payments.
At DIRM, you are not just another number. We know that behind each patient, there is a unique face and a unique story. DIRM specializes in taking care of you, as an individual. Whether you have insurance coverage or are paying for services out of your pocket, you will receive the same caring, state-of-the-art attention.
