Our 1849 cocktail—inspired by the San Francisco 49ers—is all about the gold! With a gold tequila base and (optional) cocktail glitter, this Super Bowl cocktail is the perfect tribute to the team and the history it represents.
Since San Francisco already has a signature cocktail—made with vodka, banana liqueur, orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine, we put a Super Bowl-inspired spin on it. For the 1849 cocktail, we drew inspiration from the San Francisco and added some Gold Rush-inspired flair by replacing the vodka with gold tequila to give the drink a bit more of a kick. We also added gold cocktail glitter and cut the grenadine for a less syrupy-sweet spin.
Our riff on the San Francisco cocktail is lighter, but still plenty sweet and the perfect crowd-pleaser for your Super Bowl party. The extra pineapple juice and banana liqueur make up for the loss of sweetness from the grenadine. You won’t miss it!
The below recipe makes one cocktail. If you’re hosting, we recommend batching it in a drink dispenser and letting your guests self-serve. The easiest way to batch it is to start with a full bottle of the primary spirit. For instance, if you’re starting with one full bottle of Hornitos gold tequila, use about a half bottle of banana liqueur. Follow with a quarter-bottle of Cointreau, a full bottle of Simply orange juice and a full bottle of Simply pineapple juice. Finally, sprinkle in some gold cocktail glitter, then stir and watch the magic happen! While glitter is not required, it does provide the perfect gold rush vibes for the 1849 cocktail.
Hosting a party with fans of both the 49ers and the Chiefs? We recommend two batch cocktails for a fun party experience. Supporters of each team can spend the night sipping on a cocktail inspired by the city for which they’re rooting.
