5 Flavorful, Low-Calorie Craft Beers

These breweries are changing the IPA game, and our waistlines are thanking us.

It is officially spring and one of the best ways we can think of to celebrate warmer weather is with a delicious, refreshing IPA. But craft beer lovers, we have some incredible news for you—a number of breweries are releasing some new brews that are still high in flavor but now low in calories and even carbs. So don’t feel guilty for swigging more than one—perhaps that beach body is closer than it appears. Here are a few that we recommend:

Swipe Light, by Southern Tier is a new 110-calorie ale has a slight fresh citrus aroma. It will be available year-round and can be found at a number of liquor stores throughout the state in six-packs or 12-packs.

Dogfish Head, which has been known for its high alcohol content and high calorie beers, has recently been changing its image. Last year it released SeaQuench Ale, which has won the best low-cal beer award from Men’s Health two years in a row.

In April, the Delaware brewery will release Slightly Mighty, a 95-calorie IPA that rivals other low-calorie, low-carb beers. Also this spring, Dogfish Head will be releasing an “Activity Box” which will include cans of SeaQuench Ale, Namaste White Beer, Slighty Mighty IPA, and SuperEIGHT gose, which is made with prickly pear, mango, boysenberry, blackberry, raspberry, elderberry, kiwi juices, toasted quinoa and red Hawaiian sea salt.

Founders All Day IPA isn’t new—it was actually one of the first session IPA’s to hit the market. The best part about this year-round brew is that it comes in under 150 calories per serving.

A regular Lagunitas IPA clocks in at around 190 calories for a twelve-ounce pour. For something much lighter, go for its new release, Daytime IPA. At only 98 calories per can, it has a refreshing, hoppy flavor that does not disappoint.

Using a variety of hops from Germany, New Zealand and the U.S., Firestone Walker’s Easy Jack IPA is a flavorful beer with only 135 calories. In 2019 the brewery dialed down the ABV from 4.5 percent to 4 percent, making the beer even easier to drink.
