6 Craft Beer Releases You Need to Know About

Here are some of the latest concoctions coming out of beach-area breweries.

Like food and fashion, craft beer changes with the seasons. Local brewers are anxious to celebrate spring—and in honor of National Beer Day on April 7, here are a few releases worth checking out!

1. Mispillion River Brewing Pineapple Express

Pineapple Express is what’s known as a lactose or “milkshake” IPA brewed with—you guessed it—pineapple.

2. Dewey Beer Co.’s April 14 canned releases

Every week, the brewpub/brewery is releasing a trio of beers. Up next is Fraida Felcher, made with blackberries and black currents; Bounce Bounce Bounce, made with Azacca, Motueka and Citra hops; and Elephant Shoes, a triple dry-hopped IPA.

3. Crooked Hammock Brewery’s Hand of Buddha

Released the last week of March, Hand of Buddha is a cream ale brewed with Buddha’s hand, a citrus fruit.

4. Crooked Hammock’s The Dankness

On April 20, the Dankness returns. The beer is brewed with an experimental hop called Idaho 7, whose aroma is reminiscent of marijuana buds. The date is appropriate. In 1971, high school students regularly met up at 4:20 p.m. to light up. Consequently, 420 has been linked to pot ever since.

5. Dogfish Head’s Dragons & YumYums

This lip-smacking pale ale is a tribute to The Flaming Lips, the American rock band. It’s brewed with dragon fruit, yumberry, passionfruit, pear juice and black carrot juice. Buy it in a six-pack or 12-ounce bottles through August.

6. Dogfish Head’s Mixed Media

Scheduled for an April 20 release, Mixed Media includes late-harvest Viognier grape from Alexandria Nicole Cellars in Washington. Expect a spicy white wine body with notes of sweet melon and a tart, dry finish. It’s available through September.

Our Best of Delaware Elimination Ballot is open through February 22!
