What is it about the humble chicken wing that makes it such a delicious appetizer, late-night snack or even a messy lunch option? Could it be that they come prepared in so many flavors and spices that you are bound to find a variety that you can’t live without? And come on—they are the ultimate finger food!

Here are a few of our favorite spots to get buffalo wings at the beach—some are messier than others so don’t say we didn’t warn you.

Bethany Blues
The restaurant’s hickory smoked wings are spot-on. Choose from buffalo hot sauce, Old Bay and butter, margarita lime or the sauce of the night.
18385 Coastal Hwy., Lewes • 644-2500
6 N. Pennsylvania Ave., Bethany Beach • 537-1500

Fish On
The sticky icky wings are true to their name, thanks to the pineapple and soy glaze. They are topped with scallions and come with a sriracha-ranch dipping sauce ($10).
17300 N. Village Main Blvd., Lewes • 645-9790

Hammerheads
Choose from 10 wings or three ‘hog’ wings and six different sauces. We are partial to the Hammerheads sauce, which is a “spicy, barbecue-y, ranch-y” sauce.
1818 Coastal Hwy., Dewey Beach • 227-7325
39415 Inlet Road, Rehoboth Beach • 752-8010

High Stakes Bar & Grill
Get 10 for $10.95 or 20 for $20.95. You can get them plain (‘naked’) but we prefer the honey barbecue sauce. Boneless wings are also on the menu.
5799 Lighthouse Cove Lane, Fenwick Island • 537-6971

JD Shuckers
Locals love the dry Old Bay wings ($9). An order will only set you back $6 during happy hour, which runs from 4-6 p.m. during the week in Lewes, and from 3-7 p.m. in Georgetown.
20750 John J Williams Hwy., Suite 11, Lewes • 945-8850 • jdshuckersdelaware.com
21710 Roth Ave., Georgetown • 856-1400 • jdshuckers.com

Lefty’s Alley & Eats
The perfect respite for a rainy day at the beach, Lefty’s also serves some pretty super wings. Choose from six different sauces, like teriyaki pineapple or Old Bay butter.
36450 Plaza Road, Lewes • 864-6000

The Pond Bar & Grill
Choose from a plethora of sauces and dry rubs, and whether you want bone-in or boneless. The beach bar even serves buffalo cauliflower wings.
