With the holiday hustle and bustle descending upon us, this time of year always seems to get in the way of making healthy eating a priority. But Viva Bowls, which opens Monday, Nov. 13, on Main St. in Newark, is hoping to change that. Viva Bowls, which calls itself Delaware’s first and only superfruit cafe, serves smoothie bowls that are organic, vegan and gluten-free.

The bowls are completely customizable—just choose a base (like acai or banana) and at least three toppings of your choice (like fresh fruit, chia seeds and honey). There are plenty of bowls that you can order as-is off the menu: the Mighty Hen Bowl is an acai base layered with house granola and topped with blueberries, pineapple, banana, chia seeds and chocolate hazelnut butter; the Chunky Monkey is a banana base layered with house granola and topped with banana, coconut honey peanut butter, cacao nibs and drizzled with local Delaware honey.
Custom bowls start at $8; the price goes up depending on the number of toppings.
