Does the state of Delaware need another brewery? According to brothers Jimmy and Daniel Vennard, the answer is very much, yes.
The Smyrna natives, who have degrees in engineering, have poured their heart and soul into their business, Autumn Arch Beer Project, which will finally open on Saturday, April 6.
Jimmy says the idea to open the brewery happened after he and his wife took a trip to Ashville, N.C. in 2015.
“It has a really cool vibe and there and tons of breweries that are super-casual. We were wondering why there wasn’t there anything like that where we live,” he says.
It was three years later when they started the lease on the warehouse, which is located just south of Newark and just down the street from Midnight Oil Brewing Company. “We wanted something close to a major road but that also had easy parking, and we wanted a big open warehouse-type space,” Jimmy says.

He says the name of the brewery—Autumn Arch—is also significant. “It’s the name of a climbing spot in the middle of Pennsylvania. It’s where my brother and I bonded as adults—a prelude to us brewing beer together,” he says.
The brewery will open at noon on Saturday and will have a number of beers on tap, one root beer plus wine from a local winery. There will be food trucks as well—Pizzeria Pronto will be onsite all weekend and Kapow Food Truck will be serving food on Saturday.
The beer selection will include:
- American blonde Ale
- Saison
- Oatmeal stout
- English bitter
- Session IPA
- Imperial IPA
- Citrusy IPA
- Piney and Resinous IPA
