One of the world’s largest professional beer competitions released the annual list of award winners, and three Delaware breweries made the cut. Musings Fermentation Underground earned a gold rating in the Specialty Saison category, Thompson Island Brewing Co. earned silver in the Mixed-Culture Brett Beer category and Autumn Arch Beer Project earned a gold rating for a Belgian-Style Sour Ale.
“The win is a real testament to the recipe research, execution and barrel management that the brew team diligently handles week in and week out,” says Daniel Vennard, co-founder at Autumn Arch Beer Project. “They are truly dedicated to the craft.”
The local small-batch brewery serves up interesting and unique flavors in Newark. Autumn Arch was recognized in the Belgian Sour Ale category for its All The Love You Won’t Forget, a Flanders Red Ale with funky notes of oak and musty grapes blended together in a deep red barrel-aged sour. Barrel-aged for over 12 months, All the Love You Won’t Forget has tender notes of earthy jam and a super mellow tartness. The beer was released in bottles and on draft for Valentine’s Day 2023.

“True barrel-aged sour beers are not something that can be whipped together in a few weeks,” Vennard explains. “The team has invested significant time in the sour program since 2019, so it is very rewarding to see these deeply complex, nuanced and distinctive beers be recognized.”
