The Delabear is back. But this time, in canned beer form.

This past December, northern New Castle County was captivated by the appearance of the ‘Delabear,’ a black bear that evaded capture as it roamed the streets of Wilmington. The same weekend the bear took over news cycles, Wilmington Brew Works released the Double Delaware IPA that honored the Bear.

Double Delaware IPA is triple dry hopped with Mosaic, Citra, Vic Secret and Denali hops. The brew became one of the Brewery’s fastest selling creations.

“I think people initially tried the beer because of the name, but they returned for more, and purchased growlers and crowlers of it because it really was a fantastic beer,” said Keith Hughes, Wilmington Brew Works’ COO, in a news release.

Now, in honor of its popularity and Delabear, the brew will be released in cans.

Four packs of the cans will be first available for purchase at Wilmington Brew Works’ Flights of Discovery series on Tuesday, Feb. 11, with two events scheduled for 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. The cans will go on sale to the general public during their regular operating hours, starting Wednesday, Feb. 12 at 5 p.m.

The artwork on the can label tracks the Delabear’s travels through the Brandywine Hundred, into Trolley Square, and back to Pennsylvania. The can states that the 9 percent ABV beer is “fit for a bear… and sure to lure any bear out of the woods and into your backyard,” according to a news release.
