Nightfall Manhattan
Where to Find It
Sirocco Food & Drink in the Coast Rehoboth Beach
123 Second St., Rehoboth Beach; 227-0400
The Manhattan is one cocktail that packs a punch. The traditional recipe includes rye whiskey, sweet vermouth and bitters. According to beverage lore, it was invented in the Manhattan Club in the 1870s, but some credit a bartender at a bar near Houston Street.
Over the years, many mixologists have put their own spin on the drink. For instance, bartenders at Sirocco in the Coast Rehoboth Beach, part of the Tapestry Collection by Hilton, blend Bulleit Bourbon, Italian amaro, Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur and orange bitters to create the Nightfall Manhattan. “It’s a modern take on the Midnight Manhattan,” says Nick Venditta, the hotel’s food and beverage director.
Invented in 2013, the Midnight Manhattan drops the vermouth and adds cherry and orange flavors. The wow factor comes from the citrus bubble on top, created by a device that looks like a gun from a Star Wars movie. When you touch the bubble with your lips—or finger—it bursts into fragrant smoke that wafts over the table.
