Being a state bordering the Atlantic Ocean and Delaware Bay often means meals concentrated on seafood. However, Delaware restaurants make it known that they can master more than fish, clams and crabs by perfecting a worldwide favorite dish—fried chicken. In a recent report released by BetUS, Delaware’s bb.q Chicken location placed 10th out of the top 20 restaurants in the U.S.
Located in Newark on the University of Delaware’s campus strip, university alum and founder Jin Yum introduced students and locals alike to the flavors of Korean fried chicken. With recipes that focus on using fresh ingredients, a special frying technique and a wide variety of originally crafted sauces, the bb.q Chicken menu pulls in the local community.
Despite having a degree in computer science, Yum’s familiarity with the dish exemplifies his passion and how it led him to a drastically different career. “I am one of the diehard fried chicken fans, and I used to drive all the way to northern Virginia, a total six-hour drive from where I lived, at least monthly only to order some great Korean fried chicken.”
After dozens of trips, he was struck by a thought—why not build a Korean eatery nearby? Determined to provide the best, Yum decided on opening his own version of the most popular brand in Korea. Bb.q Chicken was established in 1995 in Seoul, his birthplace, and has thrived ever since.

“The tried-and-true tastiness of Korean fried chicken speaks for itself,” Yum says. “If you have ever tried Korean fried chicken, you would know what I mean.” With bb.q Chicken, he focuses on bringing that preeminent tastiness to his own plates.
