When Wegmans opened in the Glen Mills area in November, crowds lined up to check out its expansive stock of food and supplies, plus the casual eat-in and takeout kiosks in the store. But there was another option: The Pub at Wegmans (100 Applied Card Way, off U.S. 202, Concordville, Pa., 484-785-9965), one of only eight full-service restaurants for the grocery-store chain. The 250-seat dining room is a destination, whether you are shopping for groceries or just want a great meal. The Pub’s open kitchen offers an array of choices, from sandwiches to full-scale entrées. We started our meal with appetizers that were generous enough to share: tangy Buffalo shrimp, triangles of chicken quesadilla, and a cheese and charcuterie plate with hot soppressata, Tuscan ham, an 18-month-old Gouda, giardiniera (a vegetable mix) and crispy crostini. Our main dishes were equally as delicious: a grouper sandwich with Cajun seasoning and rémoulade on brioche; a thick, 8-ounce burger with cheddar cheese; and a salmon fillet with horseradish cream sauce, garlicky greens and roasted tomatoes. We finished on a high note with a pretty chocolate dome—a ball of chocolate mousse coated with chocolate ganache—and a luscious apple cheesecake topped with caramel. Afterward, you can always walk off the calories in the seemingly endless grocery aisles.
