Big Chill Beach Club to Open This May

The family-friendly restaurant will be located at the southeast foot of the Indian River Bridge.

Warning: If you’re already counting down the days until Memorial Day, this news may make the wait seem even longer.

Officials from Delaware State Parks and La Vida Hospitality Group have announced a joint venture to enhance Delaware Seashore State Park’s south side beach with the addition of a family-friendly restaurant, the Big Chill Beach Club.

The new Big Chill Beach Club is comprised of two deck structures, each approximately 4,000 square feet. The facility is located at the southeast foot of the Indian River Bridge.

Why the name Big Chill Beach Club? La Vida Hospitality Group also includes Big Chill Surf Cantina, affectionately known by many year-round residents as “Rehoboth’s favorite watering hole.” “As so many locals will tell you, our Big Chill brand embodies the true spirit of the area we live in,” says Josh Grapski, managing partner for the company.

Grapski says Big Chill Beach Club construction is underway and the project is on target for a May 2017 opening. It is the newest addition to La Vida Hospitality Group’s portfolio of businesses in Sussex County, which include Big Chill Surf Cantina, Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes and Rehoboth’s Fork + Flask at Nage. La Vida is also the food and beverage service for the newly opened Lefty’s Alley and Eats family entertainment center in Lewes.

The upper level deck of Big Chill Beach Club will offer 360-degree views of the Atlantic Ocean, Indian River Bay and the Indian River Inlet. The 200-seat outdoor dining deck is being constructed atop the existing concession stand, which will serve as the kitchen facility offering casual fare. In addition, there will be an oyster bar and a family game area.

The adjacent second structure—The Beach Club Event Tent—will provide a versatile, full-service, 4,000-square-foot venue offering water views for catered sit-down dinners and weddings for up to 160 guests. It will also accommodate up to 200 people for cocktail parties and casual meetings. The venue will be available for bookings this year, starting June 1.
