Delaware’s longest running bakery is expanding. And this time, there’s espresso drinks involved.

Bing’s Bakery in Newark is set to open Bing’s Bake and Brew on Dec. 4. Located at 57 S. Main St. in Newark, the new concept will be focused around great coffee drinks and some of Bing’s most popular treats like cookies, cupcakes, pastries and chocolates.

Bing’s hopes to see more foot traffic and student engagement from University of Delaware with the new concept. Plus, with freshly ground coffee beans and made-from-scratch desserts, it’s already a welcoming spot for coffee shop regulars.

Owners Carla Guzzi and her husband Tom have run Bing’s Bakery for about 15 years. They’re excited to see the iconic bakery expand with something new.

“I think Mrs. Bing would be really excited,” said Carla Guzzi.

Bing’s Bake and Brew is taking over a space previously utilized by Saxby’s Coffee and is next door to Claymont Steak Shop. Guzzi said this location, while slightly “off the beat,” was the most attractive by being able to stay in Newark near UD and it already being fit out to be a coffee shop.

The shop will include plenty of tables for enjoying menu items, chatting with friends and working on class assignments. Guzzi said she might rearrange the space as time goes on to possibly add a set of couches.

Bing’s Bake and Brew will be grinding its own coffee beans, provided by award-winning Crimson Cup of Columbus, Ohio.

The cafe also has a back room area which Guzzi wants to use for create your own cupcakes and cookies classes.

Guzzi is excited to expand the Bing’s brand while keeping it in the family. Her husband takes on the majority of the baking and one of her four sons will be the manager of the coffee shop. If the family sees success with this shop, Bing’s Bake and Brew might even become a franchise, she said.

The Dec. 4 opening of Bing’s Bake and Brew will be a soft opening, Guzzi said. The cafe will hold its grand opening in February.

But, customers can expect a special visit from Santa Claus on Dec. 13 and Dec. 21 for free photos.

“We have a really good feeling about this,” she said.
