Libation of the Month: Blackberry Smash

Where to find it: Good Earth Market & Restaurant; 31806 Good Earth Lane, Ocean View; 537-7100; goodearthmarket.com

The perfect way to cool off in the steamy, late-summer months is with a delicious cocktail. Tucked away in Ocean View is Good Earth Market & Restaurant, where you can drink and dine amid a garden of herbs and fresh vegetables. As someone who leans toward a delectable tequila libation, I decided to try the Blackberry Smash during my last visit. Good Earth’s bartenders muddle three blackberries and combine with fresh lime juice, simple syrup, pomegranate juice and El Jimador tequila. A splash of triple sec and soda water are the finishing touches. Use the lime garnish to incorporate more fresh juice into the cocktail. The drink is light and refreshing, with a slight kiss of tequila in every sip. The blackberries add dimension and the pomegranate juice creates a deep magenta color. Sip it on its own or enjoy with one of Chef Nino Mancari’s culinary creations—the shrimp and grits and flat iron steak are not to be missed.
