There are plenty of great restaurants, shops and amenities in Chadds Ford, but when a caffeine craving strikes, nearby options are relatively few. On Saturday, June 23, however, coffee lovers can get a taste of a new convenience: Chadds Café + Store, which is slated to join the Chadds Ford Village & Barn Shops later this year.
The cafe is hosting a casual open-house event from noon until 6 p.m.—complete with wine and beer from Chaddsford Winery, food, live music by Couple Days and tours of the other village businesses.
The shops, currently owned by Briana Brant and her family, originally opened in 1969. The barn was a booming shopping destination in the 1970s, but a fire in the early ’80s left it in need of renovations.
Currently the barn houses seven businesses: Arden + James, Chrome Salon, Besoul Studio, Green Meadows Florist, Lynn Victoria Cosmetic & Medical Skin Care, Barbara Moore Fine Art Gallery and Yoga Underground.
“The coffee shop is the missing piece,” says Brant, who owns Arden + James.
The cafe’s menu will extend beyond coffee from Brandywine Coffee Roasters: Expect Woodside Farm Creamery ice cream (just vanilla, chocolate and strawberry to start), and the famous stromboli from Romano’s Pizzeria & Italian Restaurant. Chef Pam Lau, formerly of Talula’s Table, will prepare fresh food like soups and salads, too.
Brant hopes the cafe will officially open for business sometime in mid-September; in the meantime, it will host small events and parties throughout the summer.
