The Lewes-based Crooked Hammock Brewery celebrated its upcoming location with a groundbreaking ceremony in Auto Park.
Now Delawareans can experience the “Hammock” state of mind without having to head to the beach. Crooked Hammock Brewery is opening another location in Middletown with a goal to open its doors mid-fall 2019.
The brewery broke ground on Monday, April 1 in Middletown’s Auto Park, adjacent to the new Holiday Inn Express and Grotto Pizza. Though a traditional groundbreaking typically involves a couple shovels and some hard hats, owner Rich Garrahan wanted the event to give life to the Hammock mindset in Middletown. Members of the team served up beer and burgers that were topped with chef Jim Foss’s secret sauce, next to what looked like an old retro Jeep holding a sign that said, “COMING SOON.”
When it opens, the 7,000-square-foot restaurant and brewery in Middletown will have a much bigger backyard than the Crooked Hammock Brewery in Lewes. It will feature bocce ball courts, horseshoe pits, cornhole boards, a fire pit lounge area, a playground for kids, a beach volleyball court with an outdoor beach bar and plenty of hammocks The interior will incorporate large garage doors, creating an open courtyard concept of integrated spaces for guests to enjoy.
