Espuma Chef Opens Crab and BBQ Spot in Rehoboth

Consider this: Crabs delivered to your car door.

Beach chef Jay Caputo is at it again, this time with David Dietz of BBC Tavern in Greenville. The two have teamed up on Flying A BBQ & Crab House in Rehoboth, set to open this month. Built on the site of an old Tydol service station and named after the company’s line of petroleum products, Flying A promises a semi-industrial vintage decor, steamed crabs, natch, and a menu of bargain-priced
barbecue with an Asian twist, such as a sauce of hoisin and mango. “It’s going to smell amazing,” Caputo says. After opening Espuma in Rehoboth about 10 years ago, Caputo went on to start a succession of places—the former Porcini House and Cabo in Rehoboth, the resurrected Rose & Crown in Lewes—that make him as close to being a concept restaurateur as anyone in the state. Flying A continues in that vein. Dine in or grab and go. Parking is limited, so Caputo promises crabs delivered to your door—car door—when you call ahead, as well as a walk-up window. “I’ve always got to do a twist on something,” he says.
