When a hankering for flavorful tacos and a refreshing margarita strikes, not just any place will do. But a new addition to the restaurant scene may just hit the spot. La Piña Valley Cantina, which opened Feb. 26 on Route 202 just over the Delaware state line, offers a modern take on classic Mexican cuisine.
La Piña boasts over 70 tequilas and mezcals, allowing diners to customize cocktails and even order flights of three tequilas. Prices range from $7–$25 for tequila blanco (25 varieties available); $8–$22 for tequila reposado (over 20 varieties) and $9–$50 for tequila añejo (over 15 varieties). Margaritas are available on the rocks or frozen—and by the pitcher.

The menu is made for sharing, with plenty of appetizers like tableside guacamole, queso fundido and nachos, as well as over half a dozen taco options (including a daily taco special). Tacos come in orders of two or three, with the option of corn tortillas, flour tortillas or lettuce cups. (We ordered the daily special—grilled mahi-mahi—on flour tortillas, and they did not disappoint.)
Dinner entrees include items such as molcajete (rice topped with meats, peppers, onions and avocado), pozole (Mexican stew) and paella.
La Piña is owned by David Steiger, who also launched Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar in Glen Mills.
