The Biblical beverage mead is making a comeback around the country—and Delaware is no exception. The fermented honey wine will soon be offered at two locations here.
Liquid Alchemy Beverages in Wilmington hopes to open its shop at the end of October or beginning of November. The building at 28 Brookside Drive will feature tastings and tours of the mead-making operation. Owners Terri Sorantino and her fiancé, Jeffrey Cheskin, of Old New Castle stumbled on mead while vacationing in Portland, Maine, a few years ago. “We fell in love with the product and started playing around with it at home,” Terri says. “It’s fabulous for Delaware.”
Downstate, Brimming Horn Meadery in the Milton/Lewes area, will feature a tasting/sampling area for its meads as well as a Scandinavian-style mead hall. Owner Jon Talkington of Seaford is looking for a spring opening. He has been making and producing mead on his own for almost 20 years, winning several prestigious awards.
