Going on Now: The Wilmington Flower Market is still a ways off (thanks a lot, brutal winter), but that isn’t stopping Cromwell’s Tavern in Greenville from raising money for a good cause. The uptown hangout will donate a percentage of lunch checks throughout the month of February to the Wilmington Flower Market (which, in turn, benefits dozens of children’s organizations). The only work diners are assigned: specify “Dining for Flower Market” when lunch orders are placed.
Call Cromwell’s at 571-0561 to find out more.
Saturday, February 19: It’s time to dust off the Big Book of Dog Puns–the fifth annual Delaware Humane Association Muttini Mixer is nearly upon us. The yearly doggie friendly cocktail party (which we crowned last year as the Best Event for Animal Lovers) gets underway Saturday at 5:30 p.m. at the Delaware Center for Horticulture.
Hors d’oeuvres this year will be provided by Toscana Catering and chef Dan Butler (here’s hoping for an Etruscan version of Pup-Peroni), and dessert will come from Newark’s heavenly SAS Cupcakes. As in years past, there will be a silent auction, and pet portraits by Paolo Vairo.
And then there are the cocktails. A $50 admission ticket nets you one drink at the cash bar, but a $70 entry magically turns that cash bar into an open bar. Dogs of course are welcome to the Mixer, but must be on a leash. For more, check out the Delaware Humane Association. Reserve your space by following this link or by calling 571-8171, ext. 301.
New Digs: As a lover of pizza and all things EXTREME, the Dining Insider is beyond curious about Wilmington’s new Extreme Pizza (201 N. Market St., 384-8012), where the toppings are wacky and the pie names are hilarious.
