Jumping on the Juice Craze

Sunna, Brew HaHa!’s newest venture, focuses on healthy food and drinks.

The Brew HaHa! coffee chain has given birth to a perky, new sibling—Sunna Juice Bar & Café (1420 N. DuPont St., Rockford Shops, 778-2656). The colorful space—the former home of Brew HaHa! in Trolley Square, which relocated around the corner—opened in May and is owner Alisa Morkides’ first venture with a chef. Now, Noah Mathay, who also worked at Eclipse Bistro, is turning out breakfast dishes like egg frittata with Manchego cheese and spinach, and lunch and light dinner items, including a delicious Brandywine sandwich with sautéed wild mushrooms on brioche. “He makes healthy food taste good,” Morkides says.

But the inspiration for the concept really percolated with Ally McKenney, Sunna’s director of operations, who wanted a “place to go and get fresh juice without the cleanup involved at home.” Soon, Sunna, named after the Norse goddess of the sun, was conceived. The café’s most popular juice is the Goddess Greens with kale, cucumber, kiwi, ginger and Granny Smith apple. It’s served in a plastic stemware glass with an edible-flower garnish.
