Has your New Year’s resolution to eat healthier food fallen to the wayside? If you want to get back on track, note the opening of Playa Bowls in downtown Newark. The shop specializes in acai, pitaya, coconut and oatmeal bowls—plus juices, smoothies and chia pudding.
Manager Jessica Herron is excited about the Main Street location. “We are right in the college town of UD, surrounded by the young, health-conscious student,” she says.
Although Viva Bowls—which opened late last year and calls itself Delaware’s first and only superfruit cafe—is nearby, Herron is not worried about the competition. “There is enough place in the market [for both businesses],” she says. “We are healthy and good for your body.”
The shop’s opening on Monday, Feb. 5, coincides with the return of UD students from winter break.
Playa Bowls, which originated in New Jersey, currently has 22 locations and seven franchise stores.
