Mark your calendars—the Latte Art Throwdown returns to Drip Café in Hockessin on Thursday, March 16. Spend the evening watching local baristas compete to create the most amazing latte art.
Baristas will battle in head-to-head rounds to present one carefully crafted beverage to a panel of judges. Each latte pour takes about 30–60 seconds, and contestants only have one chance to steam their milk and pour their lattes. The lattes are judged on symmetry, contrast of colors and overall asthetic value.
Judging the bracket competition this year are Pam George (Small Wonder, Big Bites), J. Christian (J Christian Hair Studio) and Robbie Jester (Stone Balloon Ale House). Each victory will bring a barista one step closer to the final round, where they will compete for bragging rights and a prize.
The event is free and open to the public. Enjoy $1 beers, courtesy of Dew Point Brewing Company and 2SP Brewing Company. There will also be specialty coffee from Brandywine Coffee Roasters and light refreshments provided by Drip Café.
The competition is open to all skill levels. Competitors should arrive at 6:30 p.m.; the first pour is at 7:30 p.m. The cost to compete is $10 per person. (The event is a fundraiser for Hockessin’s annual Fourth of July festivities.)
