Tuesday, May 17-Thursday, May 19: The community-wide dining, fund raising, and economic development event known as Taste of Little Italy is officially underway in Wilmington’s lip-smackinest neighborhood.
The West End Neighborhood House, community center and TOLI pivot, has gathered 13 of the area’s best restaurants and an additional 13 small businesses to participate in this year’s event, which aims to vitalize Little Italy’s awesome culinary tradition.
Restaurants participating this year with special menus and deals include: The Blue Parrot, Madeline’s, Mona Lisa, Juliana’s Kitchen, Tijuana Taco, Bangkok House, Dead Presidents, Kozy Korner, Union City Grille, Walters Steak House, Pomodoro, Pastabilities, and Mrs. Robino’s.
This is the fourth year of the Taste of Little Italy, and added to the celebration are street performers, including fire dancers, the Playing Mantis, as well as Steve Silicato, and The Logue, which performs renditions of Frank Sinatra, Frankie Valli, and Nat King Cole classics.

Thursday, May 19: Chip Hearn, the mad ice cream scientist behind bacon-, booger- and garlic-flavored ice cream is at it again.
This Thursday Hearn will unveil his latest insane creation on the public–Scorpion Sting: African vanilla ice cream swirled with cayenne pepper, cinnamon, hot sauce, strawberry and…a real scorpion.
You read that correctly. Each scoop of the Sting is topped with an actual, edible scorpion–raised on a California scorpion farm, cleaned, dried and ready to eat.
Try some yourself at the Ice Cream Store‘s Fourth Annual Ice Cream Social Thursday at 3 p.m. Of course, there are lots of “normal” flavors to try, and some other potential additions to the 2011 menu include: Banana Fana Foo Fudding, Beach Plum, Cinnamon Bun, Holy Purple Cow, Junk in the Trunk, Unleash the Green Fairy, and This Is the Ice Cream Your Parents Warned You About.
