What’s the basis of a delicious bagel? Those that are crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside always seem to hit the spot. But when a craving for a decent New York-style bagel or sandwich that is reminiscent of one you can order at a Jewish deli, Delaware’s dining scene lacks options (Although, locals swear by Surf Bagel in Lewes and Rehoboth Beach and Market Street Bakery & Café in downtown Wilmington). Welcome The Original Hot Bagels, which opened its third Delaware location in Pike Creek on Jan. 3. With two locations already in Newark, the bagel and breakfast eatery has expanded to Pike Creek, which has been experiencing a restaurant boom.

The Original Hot Bagels makes their bagels from scratch, boasting a light crust and slight malty flavor. Its expansive menu includes plenty of hot breakfast choices like egg and cheese sandwiches and even omelettes. There are loads of hot and cold sandwiches, too, like tuna, chicken, egg and white fish salad, plus pizza bagels, cheesesteaks and burgers.
