Memorial Day is the unofficial start of summer—and with good reason. Community pools open, and beaches beckon to tourists. However, the federal government created the holiday in 1868 to honor and mourn U.S. military personnel who died in service. Fortunately, Old Line Spirits allows sippers to celebrate the upcoming season and toast military heroes at the same time.

Founders Mark McLaughlin and Arch Watkins met while flying Navy EA-6B Prowlers off aircraft carriers. Along with their military experience, they share a love of single-malt whiskey. Their Baltimore-based Old Line Spirits now includes rum and vodka.
Many of the products have a military slant. Consider Navy Strength 114, a 114-proof whiskey robust enough for American and British navies. The bottle for the corn vodka shows jets flying over rough seas.
Sip one of Old Line’s spirits alone, on ice or in a cocktail, such as the 12 Mile Limit, a blend of Old Line’s American Single-Malt Whiskey and the brand’s Case 1 Rum, which is aged seven to 11 years. What’s with the cocktail’s name? A coastal nation’s territorial waters extend up to 12 nautical miles from shore.
