The David Finney Inn in Old New Castle has been closed for eight years, but that didn’t deter Melissa Ferraro from always lusting after the location. “I know the town and I love the building,” says the owner of Outlandish Food Truck.
One afternoon during a run with a local social running club that she’s a member of, the owners of the building happened to walk out just as Ferraro was telling one of her running buddies how much she loved the building. “We ended up getting together the next day and negotiated a deal and everything just worked out,” she says.

Her goal is to have Sonora—named after her daughter—open in January. The restaurant will be open Thursday-Sunday, offering brunch on the weekends. She describes her menu as gourmet comfort food, but most often “it turns into whatever I feel like eating,” she says. She will offer some dishes from her food truck menu, like the very popular Fried Chicken and Waffles with Cayenne Maple Syrup and Brown Sugar Butter. “Despite the differences in the [food truck and restaurant] menus, people will know that I am Outlandish,” say Ferraro.
Even as owner and chef of Sonora, she will still continue to operate the food truck. “We catered 16 weddings this year,” she says.
