Harry’s Hospitality Group, the genius behind Harry’s Savoy Grill and Ballroom, Harry’s Seafood Grill, Harry’s Fish Market + Grill, and Kid Shelleen’s, have all been Best of Delaware winners for years. In fact, since 1985, Harry’s Hospitality Group has racked up 80 wins.
We asked Xavier Teixido, owner of Harry’s Hospitality Group, about some of the secrets to his success—and what he plans on serving at the Best of Delaware party on July 21.
DT: How do you run multiple restaurants and make sure they all produce top-quality service?
XT: It’s like a giant puzzle: When working with so many people and so much fresh product and seasonal ingredients, we are always trying to figure out how all of this works together. It requires a tremendous amount of communication and teamwork to ensure all the operations work. We basically have five different operations when you count Harry’s Fish Market and Harry’s Savoy Ballroom. It’s like having five children, all with the same DNA, but everyone’s at a different level of development.
DT:Â What is your favorite part about running your restaurants?
XT: I think working with such a diverse staff. We have people from all backgrounds, all ages, from those here with their first day on the job, to those I’ve worked with for 30 years, yet every single person is just as important as the next when it comes to providing a great guest experience.
DT: Did you attend the Best of Delaware party last year? What did you enjoy the most?
XT: Yes! My favorite part was seeing, in one place, so many of my peers and sampling what they brought to the table.
DT: Will you and/or your restaurants be at the Best of Delaware party this year?
XT: Yes, I will, and our restaurants will all be represented at the party. We’ll be serving:
1. Carved tenderloin of beef with pickled ramps and exotic mushrooms (Harry’s Savoy Grill)
2. Florida Royal Red shrimp ceviche (Harry’s Seafood Grill)
3. Burger slider, corn esquite with tomato fresco (Kid Shelleen’s)
