Whether your team makes it to the big game or not, it’s safe to say most of us love watching the Super Bowl. One of the largest television events of the year, it’s a great time to host parties, eat plenty of game-day food and mix up creative Super Bowl cocktails.
If you’re hosting this year, consider these easy-to-batch cocktails inspired by the two competing teams. If your guest list is split on who they’re rooting for, a signature cocktail is a great way to create an immersive experience. We found everything we needed for these cocktails at FranksWine in Wilmington. After hitting this local one-stop shop for beer, wine and spirits, find garnishes and mixers at your neighborhood grocery store.
For the San Francisco 49ers cocktail, it’s all about gold! With a gold tequila base and (optional) cocktail glitter, this super bowl cocktail is the perfect tribute to the team and the history it represents. San Francisco already has a signature cocktail—made with vodka, banana liqueur, orange juice, pineapple juice and grenadine. We drew inspiration from this cocktail and added our own Super Bowl spin. Replacing the vodka with gold tequila gives this drink a bit more of a kick, while cutting down on the grenadine keeps it from being cloyingly sweet. The resulting drink is plenty tasty and the perfect crowd-pleaser for your Super Bowl party.
On the Kansas City Chiefs side, we have the perfect sweet and tart pairing for your Kansas City barbecue spread. We based this one on Taylor Swift’s favorite “French Blonde” cocktail—in honor of Travis Kelce, of course. In the spirit of both Taylor and the team, we tweaked this cocktail to make it a vibrant red. Along with the traditional grapefruit juice, our Kansas City Blonde cocktail features cranberry juice for color and sweetness. Mix it in bulk and serve it straight up in a coupe glass—or a Solo cup! It is the Super Bowl, after all.
